Overview of Middle School Creative Writing
In Creative Writing the students will learn about the writing process and various genres through reading and writing activities. Students will have the opportunity to participate as members of a writing community, offering feedback to peers throughout the writing process. They will also participate in various performances, such as open-mic nights. Students will work collaboratively to produce a school newspaper as well as entering work to contest and publications individually.
Submit to this year's issue of AAA's Literary Magazine: Stardust
Submissions will be anonymously considered for publication in the magazine by the lit. mag team. They meet once a week during Academy time. The issue will come out around the end of the school year.

Meet the Teacher-Asia Hester
I was born and raised in Franklin County, Alabama where I attended a small school for K- 8th grade. I moved to Huntsville in the early 2000s and attended Lee High School where I participated in the Creative Writing Magnet. I have been involved in AAA as a parent/volunteer since 2009.
I have a strong love for the Arts and I have a strong belief that the magnet programs at AAA can take our students' education to the next level. I am a certified Arts Integration Specialist, and am committed to furthering my education and learning more about the arts, diversity, and inclusion in education. |
Meet the Teacher- Rietta Parker
I am from Birmingham and recently moved to Huntsville with my husband, John, who is from here. He is having fun showing me around! I absolutely love the arts and was a very committed theatre, choir, and dance kid growing up! I have a master's degree in creative writing from Auburn University, and am a firm believer of the importance of creative writing for student growth in their own unique writer's style and voice. I cannot wait to teach creative writing this year at AAA, where magnet programs such as this give way to so much student opportunity and achievement.
