Overview of Elementary Art
Magnet students in PreK through fifth grade explore weekly various visual art techniques and artists. The goal of art education at the Academy is to guide students toward purposeful artistic expression and informed artistic response. The Visual Arts program is a discipline-based curriculum with content standards addressing History, Criticism, Aesthetics, and Production. The curriculum is designed to develop perceptual awareness, to encourage students to value art as an important realm of human experience, to have students recognize relationships between art and other disciplines, to produce works of art appropriate to developmental ages of students, and to enable students to make and justify statements and judgments about artwork.
Did you know that elementary students can receive academic intervention from the art teacher? Here at AAA, we believe in teaching students through the arts to help them make connections.
